Entering A Trade

Meet Gerron, a 31 year NYCHA resident from Brooklyn. Gerron learned about WDC through his Housing Assistant when he inquired about employment assistance. Gerron contacted REES and was scheduled for an Information Session. At the REES information session Gerron learned about the Green Maintenance for Buildings (GMB) training provided by the New York City College of Technology (City Tech) and met one on one with a REES Assessment Specialist after the session to learn more about how this training could help him meet his employment goals. Gerron enrolled and graduated from the program.

Gerron built solid skills in the GMB program and ultimately obtained employment with NYCHA as a Painter’s Apprentice. He is very grateful for his time at City Tech because he feels what he learned prepared him for his current position. “My training at City Tech taught me what kind of paint to use on sheet rock, how paint can affect an electrical outlet and which type of paint to use on pipes. NYCHA’s Professional Development and Training taught me about specific types of paint; such as oil and latex and I apply this knowledge daily.”
Gerron is also very grateful for the impact that REES services has had on his life. City Tech WDC gave me opportunities to progress in life and has helped me achieve career goals. In the future I hope that I can become a full-fledged Painter with NYCHA.
